Everything you need to know before buying a yacht in Thailand. From budget to berth — in plain language.
The biggest mistake first-time buyers make is falling in love with a yacht before understanding their usage pattern. Ask yourself: will you live aboard full-time, use her for weekends only, or offer her for charter? How many guests will you typically have? Do you need a blue-water cruiser capable of ocean passages, or a coastal day yacht for Phang Nga Bay?
Your answers directly determine: hull type (monohull vs catamaran), engine type (inboard diesel vs outboard), size range, draft requirements, and budget. A 70ft superyacht is not better than a 45ft cruiser if you're sailing solo. Be honest about your actual usage — not your aspirational usage.

Never Skip the Survey
A survey typically costs 0.2–0.4% of the yacht's value. Skipping it to save money is one of the most expensive mistakes in yacht buying. Issues found post-purchase have no recourse against the seller.
